FIRST THURSDAYS: $100 NATIONALLY CERTIFIED SLAM POETRY COMPETITION AND
OPEN MIC... An evening of performance poetry, music, and live art hosted by Kealoha. Featuring Lem Saint Gonsalves ("Ill List" Champion) and the "No Rules" summer. Team pieces, musical accompaniment, cover poems, props, etc are ALLOWED. Winner of the night receives $100.

PRESS RELEASE:

First Thursdays continues its "no rules" summer with another quality show on June 5th. All team pieces, musical accompaniment, props, etc. are ALLOWED. However, the 3 minute time limit will still remain in effect.

The special feature for this show is Lem Saint Gonsalves, the 2009 "Ill List" Champion and 2010 "King of the Mic" Champion. He has toured both nationally and internationally, opening for artists such as Common, Lupe Fiasco, Bel Biv Devoe, and Faith Evans. He was also featured on the NAACP Image Award nominated show "Verses and Flow". As always, the night will be hosted by Kealoha, and will feature live painters and a guest DJ who will provide turntable sorcery throughout the evening.

Fresh Cafe is located at 831 Queen Street (@ intersection with Cooke Street). Doors open at 7:30pm, and the show starts at 8:30pm. Admission is $3 before 8:30pm and $5 after. For more info, check out the website at www.HawaiiSlam.com, send an email to info@HawaiiSlam.com, or call 387-9664.
