Join us this Thursday (March 6th) for a mind-blowing installment of First Thursdays at Fresh Cafe!! As always, this HawaiiSlam show will be hosted by Kealoha and will feature:

-- Taimane Gardner, an `ukulele virtuoso who has been performing since she was a toddler. At the age of 13, she met the legendary Don Ho and was invited to become a part of his show and his `Ohana. Since then she has toured around the world and has played for stars and corporations such as John Travolta, Steven Seagal, George Clooney, Pepsi, IBM, and more. She is a Na Hoku Hanohano Award Nominee and has opened for Chicago, Jimmy Buffett, and Chris Isaak.
-- The last official qualifier for the 2013-2014 HawaiiSlam season (a.k.a. the Last Chance Slam). The top two poets will secure the last spots for the 2014 Grand Slam Finals on April 3rd at Fresh Cafe.
-- Turntable Sorcery by DJ Mr. Nick (KTUH)
-- Live painting by the resident artists (past artists include Solomon Enos, Erin McCullough, Kimi Werner, The Storekeeper, Dhyana Zagri, Stanstill, Nabahe, Wes Ka`uhane, Neal Uno, Pancho Abalos, Mike Fresh, Manny P, Patti Bruce, Aaron Char, Mark Agnir, Jeff Lum, Samantha Goldman, Earl Washington, Clinton "Clean" Haness, Sequoia, Carol Tagawa, TJ Howe, Nikila Badua, Jeremiah Skurtu, Sarah Hodges, Hanam Mun, Risa Oram, and Melissa Soriano)

Coming Next Month: the GRAND SLAM FINALS at Fresh Cafe (April 3rd... HawaiiSlam s 11th Anniversary)!! The 12 best poets from the 2013-2014 First Thursdays season will square off in a three-round elimination match to determine the 2014 HawaiiSlam Team!! Pre-sale tickets will be available at this Thursday's (March 6th) show for $12. After this Thursday, tickets will be available at various stores and on our website for $15... so get yours early for you AND your friends!! This will definitely be THE slam poetry event of the year (proceeds from this fundraiser go towards sending the team off to Oakland, CA for the 2014 National Poetry Slam).

PRESS RELEASE:

The 11th official HawaiiSlam season rolls on with its monthly qualifiers at First Thursdays (March 6th, 2014). This slam will be the "Last Chance Slam" for poets to qualify for the HawaiiSlam Finals on April 3rd, 2014 that will determine the 11th team to represent Hawai`i at the 2014 National Poetry Slam in Oakland, California. As always, the night will be hosted by Kealoha, and will also feature live painters and a guest DJ who will provide turntable sorcery throughout the evening.
