The 10th official HawaiiSlam season rolls on with its monthly qualifiers at First Thursdays (October 4th, 2012). The top two poets will qualify for the HawaiiSlam Finals in April 2013 that will determine the team to represent Hawai`i at the 2013 National Poetry Slam in Boston, Massachusetts.

The special feature for this show is Stephen Meads, whose unmatched energy, incredible wit, and acrobatic performances have made him an integral member of the Bay Area's collaborative writing and performing ensembles since 2005. He serves annually as one of three judges for the National Poetry Slam's legendary Nerd Slam, and he has represented San Francisco, Berkeley, Oakland, and Tourettes Without Regrets at the National Poetry Slam. Stephen's writing dances between whimsical humor and honest revelation. As always, the night will be hosted by Kealoha, and will also feature live painters and a guest DJ who will provide turntable sorcery throughout the evening.

Join us this Thursday (October 4th) for a high-quality installment of First Thursdays at Fresh Cafe!! As always, this HawaiiSlam show will be hosted by Kealoha and will feature:

-- An official qualifier for the 2012-2013 HawaiiSlam season. Normal slam rules apply, and the top two poets will advance to the 2013 Grand Slam Finals (on April 4th, 2013) that will determine HawaiiSlam s 10th National Poetry Slam team.
-- Turntable Sorcery by DJ Toki (Sisters in Sound)
-- Live painting by the resident artists (past artists include Solomon Enos, Erin McCullough, Kimi Werner, The Storekeeper, Dhyana Zagri, Stanstill, Nabahe, Wes Ka`uhane, Neal Uno, Pancho Abalos, Mike Fresh, Manny P, Patti Bruce, Aaron Char, Mark Agnir, Jeff Lum, Samantha Goldman, Earl Washington, Clinton "Clean" Haness, Carol Tagawa, TJ Howe, Nikila Badua, Jeremiah Skurtu, Sarah Hodges, and Hanam Mun)
