FIRST THURSDAYS: $100 NATIONALLY CERTIFIED SLAM POETRY COMPETITION AND OPEN MIC... An evening of performance poetry, music, and live art hosted by Kealoha. Featuring Kevin Sandbloom (Los Angeles Songwriter) and the "No Rules" summer. Team pieces, musical accompaniment, cover poems, props, etc are ALLOWED. Winner of the night receives $100. LOCATION: Fresh Cafe, 831 Queen Street (@ intersection with Cooke Street), Thursday 6/7/2012, 8:30pm. Admission is $3 before 8:30pm, and $5 after. PRESS RELEASE:
First Thursdays continues its "no rules" summer with another quality show on June 7th. All team pieces, musical accompaniment, props, etc. are ALLOWED. However, the 3 minute time rule will still remain in effect.

The special feature for this show is Kevin Sandbloom, a songwriter who has contributed music to many independent films including Laurence Fishburne's directorial debut, Once in the Life. He also had a featured appearance on the ABC Family series "Lincoln Heights," and he wrote the title track for Grammy-nominated guitar legend Robben Ford's Supernatural album. He has shared stages and studios with Michael McDonald, Gil Scott-Heron, Vinny Caliutta, Goapele, Bilal, Jimmy Earl, The Zap Band, poet Talaam Acey and countless other artists. He has performed on stages as diverse as Poetry N Motion in London, England to Nuyorican Poets Cafe in New York to Berklee College of Music in Boston to B.B. King's Blues Club in Los Angeles and is a fixture at music and poetry venues across the U.S. As always, the night will be hosted by Kealoha, and will also feature live painters and a guest DJ who will provide turntable sorcery throughout the evening.
