November 21, 2009: The Contemporary Museum Presents Education Day - A Day for Artists, Art Students and Art Educators.

On November 21, 2009, The Contemporary Museum in Makiki Heights welcomes all to enjoy Education Day with a visit to the galleries, docent-led tours, access to the museum library and special programs, such as Portfolio Preparation and a Teachers’ Workshop. Free admission to the museum will be offered to all students, faculty and staff with school ID.

In addition to enjoying the current exhibition, At 21: Gifts and Promised Gifts in Honor of The Contemporary Museum's 20th Anniversary, The Contemporary Museum Library will also open its doors from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Docent-led tours of the galleries will be held at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

TCM Curator of Exhibitions, Inger Tully, will present Portfolio Preparation, a discussion for artists and art students on how to submit their portfolios to museums and galleries, from 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Portfolio examples will also be included. A Teachers’ Workshop, enhancing teachers’ knowledge of contemporary art, will be held from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. An exhibition tour with Quala-Lynn Young, TCM Curator of Education, will commence the program. Participation in a hands-on art project (for students grades K - 8), will then be introduced by TCM Outreach Educator, Shanda Freitas. To conclude, Interactive Storytelling will be the topic of discussion with master storyteller, James McCarthy. Workshop reservations are required.

Entry: One-Day Membership Pass: $8 Adults; $6 Students & Seniors; Members, Military with ID & Children 12 and under are free. (The fee for a one-day membership pass may be applied to the cost of an annual membership on the day of issue.) It is always free to visit the Museum Shop or the TCM Café. Museum and Shop Hours: Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Sunday from Noon to 4 p.m.; Closed Mondays and major holidays. The Contemporary Café Hours: Tuesday-Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; Sunday from Noon to 2:30 p.m. Café Reservations: (808) 523-3362. Docent Tours: Tuesday-Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Cades Library Hours: Tuesday-Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m.; or by special appointment. Parking: Free.
