PRESS RELEASE:

For one night only, we're moving locations to Next Door (43 North Hotel Street) in Chinatown!! Join us this Thursday (October 1st) for a top-notch installment of First Thursdays. As always, this HawaiiSlam show will be hosted by Kealoha and will feature:
- -- Two Warriors, a New-York based poetry duo that has been performing together since 2001. Together they aim to involve the crowd, interact with the audience, interpret stories, infuse emotion, and inspire hearts and minds through stories of love, peace, family, tribute and tradition.
- -- Family Dinner, a cutting-edge band that has a huge horn section (with a tuba) and an original uke playing MC. Led by Reggie Padilla and Joel Spiral, they flawlessly combine hip-hop, klezmer, dixie land, funk, and jazz with rooted local vibes.
- -- An official qualifier for the 2009-2010 HawaiiSlam season (top two poets advance to the 2010 Grand Slam Finals in April)
- -- Turntable Sorcery by DJ Mr. Nick (KTUH, Next Door)
- -- Live painting by the resident artists (including Solomon Enos, Erin McCullough, Kimi Werner, The Storekeeper, Dhyana Zagri, Stanstill, Nabahe, Wes Ka`uhane, Neal Uno, Pancho Abalos, Mike Fresh, Manny P, Patti Bruce, Aaron Char, Mark Agnir, Jeff Lum, Samantha Goldman, Earl Washington, Clinton "Clean" Haness, Carol Tagawa, and TJ Howe)

Poets/performers: you will only need one piece to compete, as we will only be doing one round of performances. The three-minute rule is still in effect. You do not have to break the rules to get up on the mic, but just know that you can (poet selection will be primarily random as usual). There will be 4 microphones, a DJ with his/her equipment, and one 1/4" cord to plug in basic instruments. If you have more sound requirements, bring your own equipment to make it happen. That being said, you have 30 seconds to set up... do not make us wait for you!! You can be in more than one piece if you are helping someone else out with theirs.
Doors open at 7:30pm, and the show starts at 8:30pm. Admission is $3 before 8:30pm and $5 after. For more info, check out the website at www.HawaiiSlam.com, send an email to info@HawaiiSlam.com, or call 387-9664.
