The Contemporary Museum's Board of Trustees has named Allison Wong Interim Director in an announcement made today by Violet Loo, Board President. Wong replaces Georgianna Lagoria who resigned to relocate to Los Angeles with her husband, David de la Torre, who accepted a position as Program Director and Chief Curator for LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes.
Vi Loo says she welcomes Allison's return to TCM. "Allison will bring a fresh outlook and energize the museum with bold innovative ideas," she says.
Wong was recently hired as Director of the Art in Public Places Program and the Hawaii State Art Museum, the Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts. Previous to that, she served as an Art Consultant for The Fine Art Associates.
Wong is familiar to TCM as she held the position of Assistant Curator and Curator of Exhibitions at First Hawaiian Center for more than ten years. At TCM she curated over 100 exhibitions of local and national artists and built an extensive art program at TCM at First Hawaiian Center in the heart of downtown Honolulu.
Wong was born and raised in Los Angeles and graduated from Mills College in Oakland, California, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in art history. Her new contact information, effective August 18, 2009, is awong@tcmhi.org; (808) 237-5214.
