  • Official HawaiiSlam - Press Release: Another quality show coming on August 6th 2009

PRESS RELEASE:

Join us this Thursday (August 6th) for a top-notch installment of First Thursdays at Pipeline Cafe!! This HawaiiSlam show will feature:

-- The Quadraphonix, a group that straddles the gap between avant-garde improvisation and accessible Funk, Latin, and Indian grooves. They have simultaneously earned standing as relentlessly innovative musicians and an enormously popular act, opening up for artists such as the Black Eyed Peas, Ozomatli, and Eek a Mouse.
-- A "No Rules" Slam. Team pieces, musical accompaniment, cover poems, props, etc are ALLOWED (poets/performers please see note at the bottom of this email). This is the last "No Rules" slam of the summer (we start our official slam qualifier season in September), so come witness the creative artistry!!
-- MC Intrepid
-- Turntable Sorcery by DJ Mr. Nick (KTUH)
-- Live painting by the resident artists (including Solomon Enos, Erin McCullough, Kimi Werner, The Storekeeper, Dhyana Zagri, Stanstill, Nabahe, Wes Ka`uhane, Neal Uno, Pancho Abalos, Mike Fresh, Manny P, Patti Bruce, Aaron Char, Mark Agnir, Jeff Lum, Samantha Goldman, Earl Washington, Clinton "Clean" Haness, Carol Tagawa, and TJ Howe)

First Thursdays (August 6th)
$100 Slam Poetry Competition & Open Mic
LOCATION: Pipeline Cafe
805 Pohukaina Street (@ intersection with Cooke Street)
Doors open at 7:30pm, Show starts at 8:30pm
$3 before 8:30pm, $5 after
Phone: (808) 387-9664

Poets/performers: you will only need one piece to compete, as we will only be doing one round of performances. The three-minute rule is still in effect. You do not have to break the rules to get up on the mic, but just know that you can (poet selection will be primarily random as usual). There will be 4 microphones, a DJ with his/her equipment, and one 1/4" cord to plug in basic instruments. If you have more sound requirements, bring your own equipment to make it happen. That being said, you have 30 seconds to set up... do not make us wait for you!! You can be in more than one piece if you are helping someone else out with theirs.

Pipeline Cafe is located at 805 Pohukaina Street (near intersection with Cooke St). Doors open at 7:30pm, and the show starts at 8:30pm. Admission is $3 before 8:30pm and $5 after. For more info, check out the website at www.HawaiiSlam.com, send an email to info@HawaiiSlam.com, or call 387-9664.
