"The guided tours really bring the costumes to life! The pieces are utterly fabulous but with the explanations and stories, I gained a better understanding of the minority people of China and their traditions. I'd recommend this tour and exhibition. I'll be back with my friends," said visitors to Writing with Thread: Traditional Textiles of Southwest Chinese Minorities. The sentiments were echoed throughout the University of Hawaii Art Gallery as visitors lingered after the tour to ask the docents more questions, and to take another look at the intricate hand-embroidered costumes and elaborate silver headdresses and ornaments.

"We are very fortunate that we are able to offer in-depth tours. Project Co-Directors Tom Klobe and Li Lundin gained first-hand knowledge about many minority groups, their cultures and the techniques utilized to create their costumes while conducting research for this special exhibition. I encourage people to take advantage of this unique opportunity. Admission to the UH Art Gallery is always free, and we have extended our hours until 5:00 p.m. on weekdays and Sundays," said Lisa Yoshihara, gallery director.
