• Official HawaiiSlam - Press Release: Another quality show coming on September 4th 2008

PRESS RELEASE:

The 2008-2009 slam season begins on September 4th!! Starting on September 4th, the HawaiiSlam team will have official qualifiers for its 6th National Poetry Slam team. Top two poets from each slam qualify for the 2009 Grand Slam Finals.

The special features for this show are ShadoKat and Youth Speaks Hawai`i. ShadoKat has toured throughout the United States and Europe, and in 2007 was a member of the New York City Urbana's National Slam Team. He won a 3rd place finish in Apollo Theater's Nationally renowned Amateur Night, and was the Male Performer of the Year at the 2006 National Underground Spoken Word Awards. Youth Speaks Hawai`i are the 2008 International Youth Poetry Slam Champions, and they will perform their best group pieces in a special showcase. As always, the night will be hosted by Kealoha and will feature live painters, massages in the lounge, and a guest DJ providing turntable sorcery throughout the evening.

Hawaiian Hut is located on the Ala Moana Hotel grounds at 410 Atkinson Drive. Doors open at 7:45pm, and the show starts at 8:30pm. Admission is $3 before 8:30pm and $5 after. For more info, check out the website at www.HawaiiSlam.com, send an email to info@HawaiiSlam.com, or call 387-9664.

First Thursdays is the largest registered poetry slam in the world (attendance of 600+), and takes place at the Hawaiian Hut on every first Thursday of the month. Hawaiian Hut is located on the Ala Moana Hotel grounds, near the diamond head side of the Ala Moana shopping center. Doors open at 7:45pm, and the show starts at 8:30pm.
