• Official HawaiiSlam - Press Release: Another quality show coming on August 7th 2008

PRESS RELEASE:

First Thursdays continues its "no rules" summer with another quality show on August 7th. All team pieces, musical accompaniment, props, etc. are ALLOWED. However, the 3 minute time rule will still remain in effect.

The special feature for this show is Makana, a guitar virtuoso who fuses slack key guitar with elements of cultural music, classical, alternative, rock, folk, bluegrass, blues and jazz. He was nominated for a Grammy in 2006 for his work on "Hawaiian Slack Key Kings," and he has opened for Sting, Santana, Elvis Costello, No Doubt, Jack Johnson, Michael Franti/Spearhead, and Baaba Maal. A strong advocate of community, Makana was also honored with the Artist for Peace Award in 2005. As always, the night will feature live painters, massages in the lounge, and a guest DJ providing turntable sorcery throughout the evening.

Hawaiian Hut is located on the Ala Moana Hotel grounds at 410 Atkinson Drive. Doors open at 7:45pm, and the show starts at 8:30pm. Admission is $3 before 8:30pm and $5 after. For more info, check out the website at www.HawaiiSlam.com, send an email to info@HawaiiSlam.com, or call 387-9664.

First Thursdays is the largest registered poetry slam in the world (attendance of 600+), and takes place at the Hawaiian Hut on every first Thursday of the month.
