The Association Of Hawaii Artists Announces Oahu Plein Air Paintout June 6-8th

An exciting Oahu Plein Air Paintout is being organized by Priscilla Hall of the Association of Hawaii Artists (AHA), June 6, 7, and 8, at five locations. The AHA artists will be joined by Plein Air Painters of Hawaii (PAPOH). Founder/president, Jan Bushart from Maui, will bring a contingent of neighbor island painters.

Participating member artists will paint at Kailua Beach Park, Makapu'u Beach Park, Chinatown, Moli'i Ancient Fishponds and Ho'omaluhia Botanical Garden.

On June 7, Chinatown will be humming all day with artistic activity. John Yamashige and his group, SketchCrawl Hawaii, and the U.H. Outreach landscape painting class led by Mark Brown, will be participating. Ed Korybski, Executive Director of the Honolulu Culture and Arts District, welcomes artists to Chinatown! We will be meeting at 1160 Smith Street at 8:30 a.m. across from the Tadpole Studio. After introductions, artists will fan out across Chinatown to sketch or paint. At 4:00 p.m. we will reconvene outside the popular Murphy's Bar & Grill on Merchant Street, exhibit our creations and share our stories, interpretations and experiences of the day. Don Murphy of Murphy's, a keen supporter of artists, looks forward to accommodating us at his establishment for Happy Hour and/or dinner.

The public is invited to stroll around between 9 and 4 p.m. to observe and meet the artists at work in Chinatown or to inquire about purchasing any of the works (many are professional artists). You are also invited to become members of any of the organizations represented.

The paintout will end on Sunday, June 8, with a joint potluck dinner and reception at the Ho'omaluhia Visitor Center Gallery in Kaneohe starting at 4:00 p.m. Prominent plein air artist Mark Norseth will review the works from the three days and make informal comments on elements that make successful paintings. AHA members are invited to host the gathering by bringing a dish to share in the potluck.

Friends and families of the AHA, members of the Hawaii Watercolor Society, Windward Artists Guild, the Pastel Artists of Hawaii and all the plein air painting groups on Oahu are cordially invited to join us at Ho'omaluhia for the reception and potluck.

For more information or to participate in any of the paintouts, please send email to hall.priscilla@gmail.com or call 469-0183, or simply scroll down and click on the sign up block!
