  • Official HawaiiSlam - Press Release: Another quality show coming on May 1st, 2008

PRESS RELEASE:

After an extremely successful Anniversay/Finals show, First Thursdays is proud to present it's SIXTH YEAR of poetry slams, starting off with the "No Rules" summer on May 1st. All team pieces, musical accompaniment, props, etc. are ALLOWED. However, the 3 minute time rule will still remain in effect.

The feature poets for this show are Mike McGee (www.mikemcgee.net) and Robbie Q (top 10 poets in 2007). Mike McGee is both a National Poetry Slam Champion and an Individual World Poetry Slam Championship. His feature performance on HBO's Def Poetry Jam was one of the highest ranked in popularity for 2005, and his humor has made him a household name in the poetry slam community over the past few years. Even more amazing, Mike was born with the birth defect Spina Bifida (www.sbaa.org), and is very lucky to be walking, talking, thinking and breathing. Robbie Q was one of the top 10 individual poets at the 2007 National Poetry Slam. He has been a featured performer in the poetry shows of over 30 major North American cities, including the Bowery Poetry Club in New York City and the Green Mill in Chicago. As always, the night will be hosted by Kealoha, and will feature live painters, massages in the lounge, and a guest DJ providing turntable sorcery throughout the evening.

Hawaiian Hut is located on the Ala Moana Hotel grounds at 410 Atkinson Drive. Doors open at 7:45pm, and the show starts at 8:30pm. Admission is $3 before 8:30pm and $5 after. For more info, check out the website at www.HawaiiSlam.com, send an email to info@HawaiiSlam.com, or call 387-9664.
