Official HawaiiSlam - Press Release: Another quality show coming on March 6th, 2008  PRESS RELEASE:The 5th official HawaiiSlam season rolls on with its monthly qualifiers at First Thursdays (March 6th, 2008). This will be the "last chance slam" for poets to qualify for the HawaiiSlam Finals on April 3rd that will determine the team to represent Hawaii at the 2008 National Poetry Slam in Madison, WI. Our feature poet for this evening is Oveous Maximus, a Nuyorican poet who was a member of the LouderARTS slam team that placed 3rd out of 76 teams at the 2007 National Poetry Slam. Oveous has been featured on HBO's Def Poetry Jam, NBC, UPN, Showtime at the Apollo, and the film "Spit." As always, the night will be hosted by Kealoha, and will feature live painters,  massages in the lounge, and a guest DJ providing turntable sorcery throughout the evening.First Thursdays is the largest registered poetry slam in the world (attendance of 600+), and takes place at the Hawaiian Hut on every first Thursday of the month. Hawaiian Hut is located on the Ala Moana Hotel grounds, near the diamond head side of the Ala Moana shopping center. Doors open at 7:45pm, and the show starts at 8:30pm. Admission is $3 before 8:30pm and $5 after.
