 I am a native Californian who grew up loving the beaches, orchards, and bounty of that land. My color palate reflects the rich jewel tones and light present there. Visual and emotional immersion is what I pursue in my work. Whether from the natural world or my own inner landscape, my inspiration springs from the desire to capture the experience of being present in the moment.
In my representational endeavors, I invite the viewer on a journey of intimacy through my approach with perspective and subject matter. Still life and the human form are often life size, and viewed from above.
The abstract paintings are a more personal exploration which give me a unique opportunity to break down the elemental aspects of a subject, allowing light, color, shape, and balance to become flexible. Responding to my initial inspiration, and free from the confines of rendering, I allow the work to lead me toward discovery and definition.
The Hawaiian islands are home for me now. The sand, sea, and lush tropicals create a life in me I have searched for for a long time. The light and colors here inspire me to branch out into areas in my work that are new.
