MANGO SEASON Their Unique Mix of "Island Soul/Jazz"

Formed in the summer of 2009, the band Mango Season is an eclectic mix of west coast 70's pop, jazz and bossa nova rhythms, and island style songwriting that is deeply rooted in the place and culture of Hawai i. The trio draws upon the syncopated rhythms of R&B, the soaring vocal harmonies of traditional Hawaiian music, the music innovation of local greats the likes of Kalapana, Cecilio & Kapono and Olomana, and the fingerpicking of Latin/Hawaiian slack-key guitar. Their music has the familiar feel of sweet pop melody coupled with the easy lightness of tropical grooves, inspiring their fans to call their unique mix of sound "island soul/jazz".

Mango Season is the meeting of three musical partners, each with their own unique sonic voice. At the heart of the group is the husband and wife musical partnership of Curtis Kamiya and Annie Kamiya. From their first meeting in college at the University of Puget Sound, Annie and Curtis were singing, harmonizing and rhapsodizing together. Annie s training in classical vocal music mixed with her passion for jazz and R&B vocalists like Ella Fitzgerald, India Arie and Joss Stone met Curtis acoustic singer/songwriter licks inspired by American musical greats such as James Taylor and the group America. As a duo, they performed for over 10 years together in San Francisco and Seattle before settling in Curtis hometown of Honolulu, Hawai i. Bassist Matthew Snow, already accomplished in performing jazz trombone with his own band, The Ko olau Winds, formed a musical alliance with Curtis Kamiya as teenagers in the jazz band and choir at Punahou School in Honolulu, Hawai i. To complete the Mango Season sound, session percussionist Lindy Patterson, providing the driving pulse to the music with his latin and world rhythms, and session saxophone virtuoso Ben Peters were recruited in 2010.

Kick back, turn on the digital jukebox and explore the island soul/jazz of Mango Season. Like what you hear? Purchase a CD from their online music store or check-out one of their live performances.

Mango Season is also available to provide live music performance and musician services (including sound reinforcement, MC and DJ services) for all types of events such as weddings, birthdays, pau hanas, corporate parties, luaus and festivals. Contact Mango Season to add that perfect musical compliment to your next get together.
