Description/Comments
Lino Laure is purely a self-taught painter. Born in the Philippines in 1963, at age nine his family moved to California where Lino was raised and schooled. He graduated from Cal Poly, Pomona with a Liberal Arts degree. After teaching elementary school for several years, he began cultivating his painting abilities mostly by studying many forms of artwork through keen observation.

In San Francisco where he lived for many years, Lino joined the San Francisco Artist's Guild and participated in the many art venues in the Bay Area. In 1993 Lino moved to Hawaii as he was drawn to the tropical atmosphere and landscapes. He has lived on Kauai and the Big Island and currently lives in Honolulu on the island of Oahu.

About the Artwork

All of my original artwork are painted with oils and on canvas. Occasionally, I will create pieces in watercolor and they are identified as such. Large paintings are finished in my studio while smaller paintings are completed from start to finish "en plein air" (in the open air outdoor) to capture a particular view. Because of its many climates and terrain, Hawaii is not only a tourist's paradise but a painter's paradise as well. One doesn't have to go far to find a unique spot to paint a captivating scene. For the landscape paintings, I choose a scene not only for its inherent beauty but also to bring forth a good composition. The botanical paintings either come from my photographs from visiting certain gardens or done en plein air. The dolphin and other marine life paintings are inspired by my personal interaction with these beautiful creatures in the waters of Hawaii. Reproductions of these original paintings are transfered onto canvas (the image plus a two inch border) then rolled and packaged into tubes for shipping.
