About Candace D. Fenander
Throughout my life, I painted when the urge and time coincided, which wasn't very often. Majoring in sciences at the University of Hawaii, painting became even more the occasional hobby.

Thinking that working in graphic design and production would allow me more time to do art, I went from working in science to working in commercial art. I retired from corporate art production in 2001, and in 2003 decided to concentrate on painting after being inspired by the works of one of my former employers, Bridgette Adams.

In 2004, I joined Pastel Artists of Hawaii and immediately participated in their first annual juried open exhibition. Getting one of my paintings accepted into the show, gave me the confidence I needed to continue to pursue this new direction. Pastel classes from local artist Helen Iaea followed.

The next year, I took a class from local watercolorist Roger Whitlock and joined the Hawaii Watercolor Society. In the fall of 2006, I entered my first watercolor show, juried by Doug Lew, and got accepted! What a great confidence builder!

Thus far, I have enjoyed taking pastel workshops from Richard McKinley and Terry Ludwig, and a watercolor workshop from Doug Lew. I enjoy working in both mediums and meeting the famous artists of today. But most of all, I appreciate what they have shown me about creating art and the confidence they have given me through their encouragments.
