Grindshow

Divergent. Ingenious. Provocative. Grunge Enthusiast.

Fatima Casadei (Grind) was born in Stockholm and spent many years in Vancouver, B.C.

She is a former Vaudeville/Burlesque Performer (10 years) with extensive knowledge and work history as a Colorist/Hair Stylist and Beauty Technician.

She took a step off la giostra and found herself in Honolulu, Hawaii. Here in Honolulu, Fatima had found her niche. From brush to canvas, her boisterous life inspired an ample repertoire of Lowbrow Art Nouveau girls. But this collection, Grindshow, which is now her moniker, is without a doubt the pinnacle of her creative expression.

"As long as I can remember I've been fascinated with the history of sideshows, carnies, and "freak shows". It wasn't until a year after the birth of my son, Dylan Knox, that the direction of my work could fully find its place. Dylan was born with a plethora of birth abnormalities. Albeit was bleak times, the fight for a life gained me a different outlook on life as I know it and I wanted "Grindshow" to reflect that.

I found comfort in the thought that if we'd have been around in the early 1900's we would probably be a part of a traveling carnival or freak show exhibit - The fused baby and his tattooed mother. A real, step-right-up, you-gotta-see-it-to-believe-it-folks! Extravaganza. But here we are and the world is still filled with curiosities and other unexplainable wonders. I feel that there could be no right or wrong in mother nature. How could it? When such an incredible child exists like countless before him.

My art, inspiration, and drive is dedicated to my beautiful champion, Dylan Knox, and to all the amazing people who in their lifetime became wonders to us. To The Lobster Boy, The Ape Girl, The Tattooed Lady, and all others who lived through adversity and faced cruelty - I wish to shine the brightest star on you. I admire and respect you and will forever be inspired by you."

So keep your eyes wide open ladies and gents, you don't want to miss any of this. Welcome to The Grindshow!

Art by Twink

Marlene Spence is a Hawaii based artist that has been active in the automotive & motorcycle custom painting and hand sign painting industries for the last 15 years. She took art classes up through college and then switched to Auto Body Repair & Painting. There she learned to work with metal and use automotive paints & coatings. Her current media primarily consists of automotive paints, metal flake, and 1Shot enamel. She likes to experiment with layers to get different effects.

Marlene's paintings often tune into the darker side with emotion, creepiness or sometimes jest. Working in a male dominated trade for so many years & having to earn her right would be the source of her philosophy of "No Excuses". Her influences include renaissance style paintings, 80's & 90's metal/punk album covers, skateboard art, kustom kulture, punk rock & muscle cars. You may run across some of her artwork cruising down the street or at a car show. To see more of her work visit Art by Twink on Facebook.

MystIrie

Chasity Ann Freitas. Hapa Galore. Born and raised in Hawaii.

MystIrie designs handmade costume top hats, string voodoo dolls, paperweights and circus-themed magnets and flower jester collars.

"My imaginative nature, I've inherited from my mother. I'd watch her build and make things with her own two hands. She'd look at something and say, "I can make that. I can do that." And there she would be.. just doing it.

Always keeping creatively nurtured. Sometimes the result is darling & meaningful. and other times uncommon & creepy. But whether writing or design, it's… me. I adore it all completely."

(MystIrie's thoughts on working with Grindshow)

"I'm excited! Fatima's work is phenomenal. The last several weeks have been a bullet train of thoughts and ideas. Both feeding off the others visions. It's serendipitous, thrilling and arduous. But the outcome is that there is no end, just more, more, more! There's always room for more (insert wink)"

Sideshow Talker Billy Bigelow

Step right up, step right up! Hurry, hurry, hurry and watch as Billy Bigelow commands an audience and the sideshow. An experienced showman and actor, Bigelow is no stranger to the stage.

The Infamous Bourbon Boys

The Infamous Bourbon Boys came together out of the spontaneous backyard jams sessions at the House Of Wax in the foothills of Manoa, Hawai'i. This 5 piece string band lends itself to tradition in composition, all while putting the stories of modern times into song lines from days gone bye. If a name ever encompassed an idea... then you know what to expect from... The Infamous Bourbon Boys.

Malia Delapenia

Belly Dance Muse-Artistic Director, Choreographer, Performer, Malia Delapenia is the people's choice in Hawaii as a Middle-Eastern dance performer, and instructor. Her energy and ability to captivate her audience with her universal crowd-pleasing choreography and use of enchanting props has taken her to numerous prestigious productions and events.

Malia was born on the Big Island of Hawaii, and was eventually raised on the island of Oahu by exceptionally talented parents. Her father, a musician, and her mother, an actress, have always been a constant support of Malia's dreams. They nurtured her as she would dance, act and create choreography in the family's home since she was 7 years old. Her only goal as a child was to be a dance instructor, choreographer, and performer when she grew up.

As a young child, Malia began studying many forms of dance, which include, hip-hop, ballroom, salsa, jazz and hula. She also engaged in various forms of martial arts, such as, Tai Chi, Aikido, and Tai Kwon Do. All of her training has augmented the development of her unique form of Middle-Eastern dance, which Malia has coined her "Malia in Hawaii" style.

She was introduced to middle-eastern dance in 1999 while looking for a fun and distinctive dance class. Shakti (Sundae Merrick) was her first instructor, whom Malia deems as a mentor and remains an inspiration to Malia until this day. Engrossed with belly dance, Malia developed a soul-driven devotion to learn as much as possible. With this dedication, she achieved her life goals and is now living her dream.

She is the director and owner of her professional dance company "Malia and the Belly Dancers in Paradise," and owner of the newest fitness/dance craze, "Shimmy Fitness."

Malia continues to study dance, art and health to keep her mind, soul, and body inspired. She believes that you never stop learning!
