ANDREW ROSE GALLERY is proud to present ANDREW ROSE: KALEIDOSCOPE, the gallery's first solo exhibition of new paintings by its founder. Opening Friday, May 4, and running through Friday, June 22, 2012, the gallery will host a reception on Thursday, May 10, from 6 - 8pm and an artist's talk with Andrew Rose on Thursday, June 21, from 6 -- 8pm. The gallery will be open to the public both First Fridays, May 4 and June 1 from 6 -- 10pm.

KALEIDOSCOPE shows new paintings from 2012 by Rose that develop on his earlier, smaller Rain series, shown in 2008 during his solo exhibition, LIMINAL, at Nu'uanu Gallery in Honolulu. Continuing with an investigation of how gesture and pattern function across different scales and palettes in an effort to understand aesthetic apprehension, the works echo late 19th-century Impressionism and Divisionism as well as Mid-Century Abstract Expressionism and Op-Art.

KALEIDOSCOPE features a series of six smaller canvases, each 30" x 40" that form a suite of works focussed on color, the signature piece, Kaleidoscope, 48" x 36", and Pearl, a large, 5-by-15-foot mural with its abstracted view of Honolulu from 1000 feet up the Pali mountain range.
