On First Friday, March 5, 2010 from 6:00pm to 9:00pm, the Friends of the Hawai'i State Art Museum (HiSAM) and the Hawai'i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts presents

"Hot Latin!" a showcase of the best in Latin music and dance. The event features two stages of live music, on the front lawn and the second floor lanai, and is FREE to the public. Food and drinks will be available for sale on both the lawn and courtyard lanai. Hot Latin! will feature Rolando Sanchez Hawai'i Salsa Band, Samba music from Aloha Brasil, Capoeira Martial Arts demonstration from Capoeira Besouro, Iluminada (Latin Jazz), Tango dance performances by George Garcia and his students of Isla Tango, and Spanish Guitarist Jason Nomura.

Iluminada will play Latin Jazz standards, and is comprised of premiere musicians Reggie Padilla on tenor saxophone, Deshannon Higa on Trumpet, Chris Roth on Bass, Josh Kaye on Piano, and Chuck James on Drums.

Capoeira is a Brazilian art form with West African roots that is a combination of martial arts movements, dance, gymnastics, music, strategy and rhythmic music. Capoeira employs musical instruments such as the atabaque (drum), pandeiro (tambourine) and a bowed instrument called the berimbao. Capoeira Besouro Hawai'i is under the direction and supervision of Mestre Kinha. Mestre Kinha also performs infectious Samba music on the lawn with his group, Aloha Brasil.

Jason Nomura is a musician currently pursuing a B.Ed. in Secondary/General Music Education at UH-Manoa. As a classical musician, Jason has excelled in his presence at UH earning himself an honor recital and a couple scholarships. Jason graduated from Kadena High School, which is on the USAF Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan.

IslaTango is the premiere source of Argentine Tango in Hawai'i, and was recognized as the "Best of Honolulu" for Argentine Tango in the March 2009 edition of the Honolulu Magazine (page 94). IslaTango was founded in 1997 by George Garcia and is now a solid tango community in the middle of the Pacific.

Rolando Sanchez Percussionist- Singer-Songwriter-Producer, leader of Hawai'i's Premiere, longest running, best selling Latin recording group from Hawai'i. Rolando Sanchez and Salsa Hawai'i Band is exhilarating, stimulating, energizing and intensifying!

This free event is presented by the Hawai'i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts and the Friends of the Hawai'i State Art Museum. The event is produced by Tim Bostock Productions.
