Shakti Dance
Movement is an
all-woman Tribal Fusion Belly Dance company in Honolulu, Hawaii. Their all
original choreography, cutting edge performances, and dedication to the divine
feminine have gained them notable recognition in the dance
community.
Capoeira
Cordão de Ouro
Hawaii, under the
direction of Instrutor Duas Duzias, blends martial arts, dance, acrobatics, and
music. Don’t miss out on their playful, energetic
show.
Tiffany
Harrington, a
Maryland native, has an absurd comic style that pokes fun at everything from
racism to homosexuality and social mores. A semi-finalist in the 2006 New
York Institute of Technology Comedy Competition, and a crowd favorite, Tiffany
is a (currently) undiscovered gem in the Hawai’i comedy
world.
And, you all know
Quadraphonix
featuring
Taimane
Gardner. Their
unique eclectic sound has been drawing you to Ong King for a while now.
So, come get drawn in again by the ukelele prodigy and the ubertalent that is
Quadraphonix. But, you may not know
3x
(that’s “three to the power of X”). Jonathan, Shree, and
Chris have put together a new band with just as much energy, and perhaps more
experimentation. Definitely danceable, soul-charge-able
music.
Jegaan Singh Faye
found the guitar
while living in the Philippines, and found his voice in Minneapolis. He takes a
life lived round the world and puts it into his lyrics, tones, and soulful
voice.
Matt Love,
our favorite Waikiki
Bucket Drummer, will be there to get the dancing started. And, don’t
forget Cody
Pierce and
Manwich
Doctors, who are
going to bless us with their spoken
word.
All of this will be
happening in the exquisite backdrop of two talented artists:
Bethany Georges
and Elliott
Baskerville. Born in
Spain,
Georges
has lived all over the US but calls Hawai’I home. She enjoys finding
delicious combinations of hot and cold colors and focusing on the optical
illusions that most people gloss over as being one
color.
Baskerville,
known mostly by the name VANWIZLE, creates art that flows like water, and has
been doing so since he was 5. A Chicago native, he invites you to step
inside his world and let go of your version of reality.
Come by Ong King First
Friday in February to get your mind rocked by all these talented
people.
