The rhythm is gonna get you at our Live from the Lawn event entitled World Beat at the Hawai'i State Art Museum on First Friday on November 6th from 6 to 9 p.m. This free event features a great mix of master percussionists playing music from many different cultures around the world, including the music of Japan (Taiko Center of the Pacific Youth and Adult Groups), Africa (Nigerian drummer Sango), Middle East (Tamr Hennas), Caribbean (Greg and Junko MacDonald on steel drums), and Pacific exotica (Don Tiki celebrating the release of their new album, South of the Boudoir).

Be sure to head upstairs to see the beautiful art from the Art in Public Places Collection, which is on display in the museum galleries. Our two new exhibitions are entitled Ho'oulu: The Inspiration of Hula and Where We Live: Places of Hawai'i.

Food and beverages will be available for purchase from Downtown @ the HiSAM, Le Crepe Café, Hank's Haute Dogs, Land of Organica, and Hale Kealoha 'Ai Pono.

This free event is presented by the Hawai'i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts and the Friends of the Hawai'i State Art Museum, with support from the LEF Foundation and DBEDT. The program is produced by Tim Bostock Productions. All programs are subject to change without notice.

The Hawai'i State Art Museum is in the No. 1 Capitol District Building at 250 South Hotel Street, on the corner of Hotel and Richards Streets, in downtown Honolulu across from the Capitol. The museum is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free. For more information, call 586-0900 or visit www.hawaii.gov/sfca.
