Patrice Federspiel Painting the Essence of Living Aloha
Born in Port Washington, WI and educated at the University of Wisconsin/Madison, Patrice first visited Hawaii in January 2000. Within five months she had found a way to quit her job, sell her house, and move to Hawaii to paint. Previously an oil painter, Patrice learned the intricacies of watercolor upon her arrival in Honolulu in June 2000.
Since arriving in Hawaii, Patrice has held numerous solo exhibits throughout Honolulu. In 2007 and 2008, her paintings were in the Juried Show at the Kim Taylor Reece Gallery. Since 2003, she has exhibited with the Hawaii Watercolor Association twice a year, most recently receiving second place for Me, Me, Pick Me!. In addition she has won two Honorable Mentions, two Arches Paper Awards, the Charlotte Huntley Award, and the Daler-Rowney Award. She has also exhibited with the Windward Artists Guild and the Association of Hawaiian Artists.
In 2004, Ms. Federspiel had the honor of being one of 50 artists chosen to participate in Honolulus Geckos in Paradise sculpture competition and exhibit. Patrices gecko raised $10,000 for breast cancer research and can be seen in the recently published book, American Art Parades.
Ms. Federspiels award-winning painting, Growing from the Inside Out, is featured in the 2006 edition of the Junior League of Honolulus cookbook entitled Aloha Days, Hula Nights. Illustrations by Patrice have been published in: 60 @ 60: 60 Things that Can Happen to Your Body @ 60 and What You Can Do About Them; Hawaii Woman Magazine; Midweek Islander; Hawaii Bar Journal; and Chicken Soup from the Soul of Hawaii.
A board member of the Hawaii Watercolor Society, Patrices work can be seen on Oahu at the Design Studio, Kim Taylor Reece Gallery, Robyn Buntin Gallery, Kuloko Arts, NaMea Native Books Stores, Island Treasures, Global Creations, and Plantation Home Decor, as well as several locations on the outer islands.
