You can experience some truly inspirational hula performances at our Live from the Lawn event entitled Hula Kahiko which will be held on the front lawn of the Hawai‘i State Art Museum on First Friday on September 4th from 6 to 9 p.m.

This free event features a celebration of the traditions of ancient hula in concert with the opening of the new hula art exhibition entitled Ho‘oulu: The Inspiration of Hula at the Hawai‘i State Art Museum. The Inspiration of Hula," hula-inspired work from the Art in Public Places Collection, along with hula implements and objects from the Bishop Museum and the Hula Preservation Society.

This event features performances by Halau Mohala ‘Ilima with Kumu Hula Mapuana de Silva, Halau Hula Ka No‘eau with Kumu Hula Michael Pili Pang, and Halau Pua Ali‘i ‘Ilima with Kumu Hula Vicky Holt Takamine.




Food is available for purchase from Downtown @ the HiSAM, Le Crepe Café, Hank’s Haute Dogs, Land of Organica, and Hale Kealoha - Ai Pono.

This free event is presented by the Hawai‘i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts and the Friends of the Hawai‘i State Art Museum, with support from the LEF Foundation and DBEDT. The program is produced by Tim Bostock Productions. All programs are subject to change without notice.

The Hawai‘i State Art Museum is in the No. 1 Capitol District Building at 250 South Hotel Street, on the corner of Hotel and Richards Streets, in downtown Honolulu across from the Capitol. The museum is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free. For more information, call 586-0900 or visit www.hawaii.gov/sfca.
