Visual ART
FEAUTURE ARTIST:Fifty/Fifty is a vision inspired by a group of individuals whose goal is to pay homage to the skate and surf culture, which has fueled our endeavors and influenced our minds. Art can be defined in many different ways - painting, sculpture, etc - no matter how you define it, one thing remains at its core: self-expression. Both surfing and skating are sports that that rely on individual creativity; we want to explore this creative link and share the experience with others, whatever the by-product may end up being.

Fifty/Fifty is a collective of contemporary and culturally literate artists, emerging and established, n’ always relevant. Our intention is to create, motivate, and engage the skate, surf, and art community in this special event. This show exists in honor of the surf and skateboarding legacy which has fundamentally improved the quality of our lives. Expect the unexpected.

MUSIC: Family Dinner, was recently crowned the ‘most kick ass band in town’ by several knowing humans. In fact when they play at onG king I have to hear peopLe asK when are they coming back, when are they coming back FamilY DInner, has a huge horn section with a tuba, an original uke playing MC and manages to combine hip-hop, klezmer, dixie land, funk, and jazz with rooted local vibe.

The originators of the group Joel Spiral and Reginald Padilla have been surfing and playing music together for a year and half. The band was born from a land lords, every Friday, family dinner. Where the 3 saxophonists jammed with MC Joel. More band members were recruited from the Army Brass Band. www.myspace.com/familydinners

IMPROV THEATRE:

OTS (On the Spot) has been performing for 9 years and is Hawaii's only Alt Improv troupe. Like most improv troupes OTS started as a short form college improv team who made a name for themselves by specializing in "short form" improv games. Through the years the troupe has expanded their repertoire by adopting an improv style which favors character arc & storytelling, moving from traditional improv to alternative improv or Alt Improv. Alt improv uses the same theory and practices as traditional improv but presents it more like a theatrical production. This style of improvised theatre has allowed OTS to showcase an arsenal of original themed shows like, "The Unwritten Works of William Shakespeare", "OTS the Musical," and the group's latest production, the live-action 1920's Silent Movie-esque show, "HUSH!"

OTS is Garrick Paikai, Rod Cachola, Jordan Savusa, Alissa Joy Lee, Troy Apostal, and Art Koshi. The Group regularly performs on the first Saturday of the month at the Arts at Marks Garage.

SLAM POETRY:

TUIZ: Tui Scanlan has risen fast. A member of the Hawaii SLam Team for two years runnin. Once he was in a stagnant pool of wanna-be stars on the mainland Orange County. He had to come home to the story of this land, he wanted to tell stories with meaning. Together with fellow giant poet Darron, they have begun a new poetry night at Bar 35 ‘Muzedays on Tuesdays’ with workshops and slams.

Dar’ron Cambra: Found his writer’s voice while getting his 6-year degree in creative writing and even more creative excuses at Western Washington University. A large ego and the desire for attention drew Darron from the page to the stage, after many failed attempts and embarrassing mistakes, Dar'ron has become a noticeable figure in the Hawai’i Slam Community (because he is tall) and is a Mentor and Facilitator for YouthSpeaksHawai’i where he copies the talented teens’ poetry and passes it off as his own. His CD ‘True Confessions of a Compulsive Liar’ has just been released, using pieces from his chapbook with the same name plus three newer pieces. the CD is a wonderful mix of poetry and music, produced by artists from both Washington and Hawaii. Darron is a member of Hawaii Slam, 2 years runnin!

Danny Sherrard is a Grand Slam Champion and the newest member of Hawaii Slam.
“Danny Sherrard is his own relay race to the light, a 1-man celebration of what's possible, and the certain spawn of Mick Jagger. Watching Sherrard perform is comparable to witnessing professional double dutch jumpers juggle goose bumps with the ropes on fire. I imagine it's fun for Danny to watch people reaching for the stars as if they're some ultimate destination, especially since he already lives there. And he loves visitors."

LOcO MoCO: This is a crazed street performing madman if ever one existed! Loco Moco dares you to come on stage and be part of his jugggling, comedy act. A regular on the Waikiki pitch he grooves on stilts and in many a gathering.

The FOOL TrUTH: A fools feast. A play inspired by Shakespeare, Hip-hop, soul singing, and theatrics. This one man show is dedicated to the fool within. The Fool is MC See, soon he will go off on a tour of the mainland, this is his final first Friday before a two month hiatus.
