The historic Mendonca Building's Courtyard hosts the January One Night Stand as part of the Mayor's Inaugural Block Party.

Multi-talented musician and actor, James McCarthy (and Mendonca building resident), brings music, humor and stories to the One Night Stand. He weaves original, new and familiar music with comedy and stories in a family-friendly performance to start an evening of exploring the neighborhood and seeing good friends. Following on stage will be Fred Gayagas providing his own brand of local music and interaction.

Dr. Spencer Hamada and Mr. Michael CheekÊ create with a relatively new three-dimensional media called Cast-Paper. Michael focuses on Hawaiian medicinal plants while Spencer on Hawaiian Myths.

Jayme Miyamoto, a recent graduate of the University of Hawaii at Manoa with a Bachelors in Art and a focus in drawing and painting. Her next journey is to Oregon where she plans to earn her Master's degree in Visual Studies. She enjoys working with all types of painting media. Most commonly used are oils and acrylic, but she has recently begun to explore the world of watercolors. Another new element that she has added to her art work is the use of layering materials and sewing them onto her canvas or paper.

In keeping with our Chinatown venue, Acupuncture & Herbs from China will be offering their exotic teas and lotions for sale as usual. Dinner and awesome desserts will be available at the Starpoint Café as usual. On opposite sides of the Maunakea entry doors are Rosarina Pizza (best pizza this side of Kaena Point) and Dim Sum at Happy Garden. Try the mochi carrots! Back by popular demand will be “Lucious Lanikai Jellies” created and provided by Tina Young.

For the first time in the Courtyard is a sweet guest from the Windward side:Ê The Cottage in Kailua is known for their fresh, made on site, FUDGE as well as for a variety of carefully selected, uncommon, delightful gift items. Since 2001, they have been "Purveyors of Old Fashioned Goodness", offering a connection with things from a simpler time.

Rounding out the evening are artists from the GroundUP Pirates: a collective of independent artists from all genres of ART -including paintings, ceramics, photography, music, DJs, poetry, fashion, and all other elements of personal expression. The GroundUP Pirates have evolved from a small net group of artists and friends to becoming a "movement" spreading throughout the world. Funds from sales will be used to finance a group trip to the Mainland for another show.

Enter into the Chinatown Courtyard through the Blue Dragon Gate on Smith Street. This event is free and open to the public.
