Visual ART
FEAUTURE ARTIST: Anuradha Shankaran is of Indian ancestry, born in Canada to parents born of the Figi Islands. Her transcendent art began taking shape at the age of 8, when she lived in India for half a year. She credits this trip with putting her on the path of her principle art elements, spirituality, meditation and world culture.

Her roots laid, she journeyed into the fashion industry where she had the ability to both travel and work creatively. She studied Fashion Design, at Fashion Institute of Technology, and Painting at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

“my objective with Art is to have the audience experience a moment of transcending the barriers of time and space.”

Anuradha Shankaran's work expresses the spirit of our times. She utilizes her Art as a tool for advocacy.

EMERGING ARTIST: Ariel Eisen was born in Florida but grew up and through her most formative years in Santa Barbara, CA. She recently moved to Hawaii in pursuit of a life in harmony and balance with the earth and its life-giving elements.

"I have used art (and music) as tools throughout my life to stay in touch with my true nature and to uncover the essence of whatever I am focusing on."

In her portraiture, Ariel is refining a style that can best be characterized as transparent realism. Although the external features of the face are recognizable, some indefinable quality of the soul unmistakably shines through. In her other works, she creates improvisational flights of the imagination on canvas, associative forays into the collective unconscious mind full of thought provoking portent and mystery. In this show, Ariel has shown the search light of her transparent portraiture largely on herself, exploring the many underlying facets not only of her own persona, but of the persona of the universal human.

"I have been studying human composition like a psychologist unnoticed in the corner of a subject's room, or a concert pianist in a creative daze breaking down a complex piece of music. The portraits, and the rest of the imagery here, are explorations into what I am/we are made of, a deconstructing of the self, a trail to a place where I can clearly see that the "I" that I focus on is just a dream, and that between you and I, everything resides. There truly is no seam."
