Priestesses in sacred ceremonies, craftswomen and guardians of ritual. Meet the women of ancient Hawai'i - long overlooked, misunderstood, and shrouded in mystery.

Based on the groundbreaking new book of the same name by Lucia Tarallo Jensen and Natalie Mahina Jensen, Daughters of Haumea recreates the roles of the ancient women of Hawai'i through an exciting blend of hula kahiko, hula 'auana, and hula mua. Hula mua is Patrick Makuak?ne's trademark style of hula, which pays homage to tradition while bringing hula into a modern realm. The book, Daughters of Haumea, is the winner of the 2006 Ka Palapala Po'okela award for excellence in general Hawaiian culture.

Also, there will be a pre-performance talk by Lucia Tarallo Jensen and Natalie Mahina Jensen, authors of the groundbreaking book Daughters of Haumea. In the lobby 3/7 & 3/8 at 6:00pm.
