Art gallery opening 5pm-9pm, Performance 9pm-2am
FIRST FRIDAY: February 1st at Ong King Arts Center
The moment begins with your eyes, the sight of color form, raw original art vibrates from exposed brick walls, then sound, live music earthy drums, ethereal sitar, rhythms of the world, suddenly there are words your mind is engaged with soulful truths of lyrical poetry, finally a circus performer shifts the focus to wonder and amazement, something inside you says yes. Later you remember a dance, a meaningful conversation, and...kava?....yes, this is fIRsT Friday @ onG kING. 3 great bands combine, from California: Cerro Negro, from North Shore: SOLstiCE, and from Honolulu: Quadraphonix. 3 new visual artists. 2 gifted circus performers. A poet, an MC, a DJ. Truth in art, art as truth. love this.
Visual ART
Featured Artist: Michael Romano: For 10 years Michael has produced illustrations for mass media outlets such as magazines, advertising, web sites and broadcast television. All of his pieces go through a digital process involving everything from vector graphics to coloring a hand sketch onscreen. He is self employed as a multimedia artist in the Honolulu area servicing broadcast and film applications.

FEATURE ARTIST #2: Rzone is an illustrator with bachelor degree in fine arts. Born and raised in Venezuela. In 2002 she left her country to do what she love the most, to paint and travel. This long road stared in Spain, moving later to Italy, Miami, Las Vegas and finally Hawaii where she is currently living.
The style of Rzone has been influenced by Latin American folk art, urban graffiti and animated French tales. Her art work is a new, fresh graphic language, mixing amusing, melancholy characters and tons of colors.
FEATURE ARTIST #3: (coutrnesy of 50/50 surf/skate collective) Cristy SHiNN: Upon graduating high school, self-taught artist SHINN took a years-long expedition away from her native Canada to follow a growing obsession with surfing. Along the way, she discovered motivation, inspiration and opportunity for her art, which created many new and exciting journeys as a transient artist/surfer. SHINN eventually found her chosen home, and a community of supporters on the North Shore of Oahu, where she has lived for several years continues to base herself seasonally.
Through lightly fictionalized documentation, SHINN's bright, illustrative pieces rescue those smaller moments of insight and humor, which might otherwise slip into the sea of things experienced and quickly forgotten. Her cheeky characters and bright colors have been featured most recently on a series of decks for Sattylite Wakeskates, as well as a soon-to-be-released clothing company created by Pro Snowboarder Jesse Fulton.
SHINN's art has been featured on Surfline, in Freesurf and AlmaSurf and can be found in the offices of Skateboarder Magazine, Origin Surf and Billabong USA.
