SLAM POETRY: Jon Sands' poetry is a genuine look into the mind of a moment wrapped up neatly into an anvil, then dropped from a sixty story building. An Ohio native, Sands now resides in New York City's legendary slam scene where in his first year of competition he captured a slot on the LouderARTS New York City slam team, then rip-roared his way through the national scene as a finalist at the 2007 National Poetry Slam in Austin, TX. A leading voice in the next generation of poetry, he has authored two chapbooks, In its Own Imaginative Engine (2006) and Being Human Being (2007). Blending youthful idealism with forceful passion and a drop of fire, Sands' work probes society and self in search of our most difficult answers
LIvE MuSIC: THE DeadBEats: TheEnd and Harumi the Hymn make up The Deadbeats. The two have been making music together for just over nine years now. As a duo they have played nemerous live venues over the years, but have recently been keeping in the studio working on their first release. Be as excited as The Deadbeats are to share the odyssey of music...Each night of the moNtH THE DeadBEats plays their HiP hOP, gROOve reViVAL at JaZZ mINDS. www.myspace.com/thenewdeadbeats
