Description/Comments

SLAM POETRY: Lee Knight Jr. has been writing and performing as a spoken word artist (and slam poet) for the past 11 years. His poetry weaves vivid imagery and rich metaphor with raw description to create moving narratives of personal experience and social-political significance. Through his powerful words and confessional style, Lee transforms wistful moments into lyrical conviction. Lee has performed throughout the United States, Canada and Europe, and he toured Germany as a member of the duo/duet Caligula 6 in 2003 and 2007. Lee was the winner of the Bay area “King of the Mic” competition held in Sacramento , CA and he later won the Grand Slam Championship of Salt Lake City Mayhem in the Mountains Poetry Competition in 2006.

He represented Palo Alto in the Individual World Poetry Slam held in Charlotte , NC in 2006 and in Vancouver , BC in 2007, and took fourth on the Individuals Finals Stage at the 2006 National Poetry Slam in Austin

LIvE MuSIC: QuaDraPHonix has built up rapport, style and a strong local fan base. The crafty groove, jazz, funk, Latin band is playing outer islands many nights of the month, but they return to oNG kING where Drummer Jonathan Heraux built the floor, the bar and the room where we get up. He is joined by Shree Saragopan, Eli Clemens, and Tino.

WUT and JP: WuT & JP are a playful young and adventurous duo. The Tao of Love & Hate is a landmark acoustic CD for the band, representing the coming out of heavy relationships, and expressing the joy of letting go. The Soon to be released album in 2008 Signs of Change, will be the bands evolution and testament to their abilities.

“We make music that amazes people in a way that no one has ever done before. We stand for beauty, life, passion, integrity, and expression. We are our icons. We sell a life style and the art that goes with it..”

Intergrading hip hop, rock, blues, soul, folk, and acoustic instruments, creates a polished, and powerful sound. The music is a pure expression of the human heart, playful and rebellious. So deeply passionate as to make you turn your head to hide the tear in your eye.

“We are music, and our sound is delicious. We believe in our dreaming, and in keeping the dream alive. We are music, and we ARE the new Main Stream!”

THEATRE: The Devil and BiLLy MARKHAM by SHel Silverstein. An excerpt of this 7 person choreo-poem is brought to life for the bawdy pleasure of all. Directed by Tui Scanlan, this piece uses the poetry of Silverstein that was not intended for children. Its dark, sexy and lyrical. The full play will be performed at Ong kiNG from October 12th - Nov 10th including a Halloween SHow.

JUGGLING: ARI the CLOWN has returned from late nights in Denmark to mark us with his unique twenty minutes of humor and skill. Long have we missed his presence, his return promises to be wicked.

DANCE: GiinKO MARACHINO performs a pink piece of pleasure, Directed by Malia Oliver and starring some of the greatest queens of Honolulu.

THE FLAMENCO DANCERS will be a mysterious surprise.
OH and DJ JOULZ holds the night together with MC SEE. GADZOOKS!
