Description/Comments
July's First Friday “One Night Stand” in the Chinatown Courtyard on Smith Street will feature six artists, three returning to the Courtyard for a second appearance and three new.

New this month are:

Edgardo Garcia II, is well known for his sea turtles and other marine seascapes. He will be offering a live oil painting demonstration in the Maunakea Corridor. He will also bring a variety of his limited edition oils as well as various sized prints.

Deva Garcia, who will be showing her elaborate jewelry and bead work in a very unique way. Watch for it to be “mobile” in the Courtyard.

Richard Sheeler will be showing various metal sculptures.

Returning, Garry Palm, will again be at his easel in the Smith street corner of the Courtyard. Although accomplished in oil and acrylics, now, he records familiar Hawaii landmarks, flowers, and nostalgic island girls in glowing, translucent watercolors. His “Palm Girls” are reminiscent of the lovely ladies of the war years. Originals and prints will be available to purchase as well as cards and calendars.

"Photographic Manipulation and Extemporaneous Portraiture" would be an intriguingly brief description of the work brought by Jay (James) Anshutz. His photographs are of familiar places....Or are they?

Bronson Shimabukuro, of the Windward Community College Gallery will be presenting various examples of his stencil work, some 3-D, as well as other paintings.

Come to the Courtyard anytime during the evening and watch Garry & Edgardo create in person, enjoy the eclectic work of emerging artists, have refreshments and listen to Fred Gayagas share his wonderful old and new Hawaiian tunes. Enter the Courtyard through the gate on Smith Street as marked by the Blue Dragon and his lanterns.
