Description/Comments

Ong King Arts Center continues to be on the forefront of underground local artists and performers through our first Friday multimedia art extravaganza. On Friday the first of June our lineup will include 3 musical acts, 2 dance companies, 1 theatre troop, and award winning local youth poets.
Ê
The night begins at 5 pm with our gallery opening of visual artists including the entrants of the e(art)h competition a project joining UH Manoa and local elementary school students, and a one of a kind live art (body painting) Exhibit by local phenomenon Erin Paris. Erin will utilize living models as her canvas inside of Ong King’s glass room. Both exhibits are part of the first Friday art walk and are free until 9 pm.

E(art)h Competition (organized by Sean Connely)
"What is sustainability?Ê Sustainability is a word we use to describe the process in which we return to simplicity.Ê It is based on a universal idea that already exists in other phrases and words such as "think globally, act locally" or "ecological."Ê Sustainability nurtures a belief that change and evolution begins with individual action; we are all connected to and affect each other.Ê Ultimately a sustainable awareness flourishes as an attitude amongst people connected to their communities and the land.
The e(art)h competition was created by the H.U.B. (Help Us Bridge), a passionate and optimistic group of UHM students, dedicated to transform the University of Hawai'i into a world leader in sustainability.Ê Our mission is to ultimately connect with UHM and the community of Hawai'i so that our united efforts can magnify and accelerate change.
Ê
However, before any positive changes can occur, we must first inspire an attitude of respect for our environment in which positive, sustainable changes can grow.Ê One of the ways we have strived to connect with our community is though our e(art)h competition, open to everyone in Hawai'i. Ê We strive to use art as a means to educate, especially Hawai'i youth, about what sustainability means and celebrate each individual's importance in the community and ability to make a difference. Ê Art will inspire attitudes of respect our community needs to begin making changes.
Ê
M‰lama k‰kou pž i ka '‰ina—together we care for our environment. Ê Doing so, we nurture our unique culture and protect Hawai'i for our future generations."
Ê
Featuring Erin Paris fantastic display of Face and body painting and E(art)h Competition organized by Sean Connely.
