First Friday Performance
Special Program In Celebration Of Maoli Arts Month In May
Join us for Live from the Lanai for a special program in celebration of Maoli Arts Month in May. This event will feature two trios playing Hawaiian music plus a hula dancer. They will perform on the second floor lanai courtyard and the Diamond Head Gallery of the Hawai'i State Art Museum for First Friday on May 4th. Our two art exhibitions, Enriched by Diversity: The Art of Hawai'i, and Precious Resources: The Land & The Sea will be open to the public. We also invite you to see our art exhibitions that will be open for First Friday from 5 to 9 p.m. For more information, visit www.hawaii.gov/sfca.
EXHIBITIONS
Enriched by Diversity: The Art of Hawaii, is a semi-permanent exhibition featuring 132 works of art by 105 Hawaii-based artists from the Art in Public Places Collection. Inspirational themes in the installation revolve around rediscovering Hawaiian heritage, Asian roots, social consciousness, and cultural traditions.
Precious Resources: The Land & The Sea, is a new temporary exhibition that explores our connection to earth and water and the impact of our natural surroundings on the identity, daily lives, and cultures of Hawai'i. Artists include Allyn Bromley, Robert Hamada, Kathleen Kam, Herb Kane, Wayne Levin, Hiroki Morinoue, Louis Pohl, Franco Salmoiraghi, and John Wisnosky. This exhibition has been extended to run indefinitely.
ABOUT THE HAWAII STATE MUSEUM
The Hawai'i State Art Museum is located in No. 1 Capitol Distric Building at 250 South Hotel Street. The building is situated in the historic Hawaii Capital Cultural District, across from 'Iolani Palace and the State Capitol.
