Description/Comments
Beauty, music, and theatre soar from the walls, through the lips and to the streets of First Friday. Muralist John Elliot fills the main hall with his enormous wave paintings, Photographer Timothy Pinault creates an atmospheric photo installation, and then the performances begin. Guitar virtuoso Scott Huckabay, fuses shamanistic percussion with electrifying guitar thru a myriad of pedals and loops. Reggae/Blues Local Touring Band FreeSound, adds its high energy compositions. Theatre and Dance merge as HUTC collaborates with Ginnko Marischino in a hip-hop theatre myth, a performance from Vagina MOnologues, juggler The Amazing TJ comes in off the Waikiki streets, World Percussionist Michael Wall teams with Eli Clemens in an audience participatory rhythm build, Capoeira Cordao de Ouro brings the Brazilian flavor, Jonathan Heroux leads his new band, MC SEE and one TBA national touring slam poet come to add to these layers of social, political, and cultural relevance.

MUSIC CONCERT: Scott Huckabay won Bam Magazine's Guitarist of the Year award in Los Angeles, he has performed with Chicago, Crosby Stills & Nash, and Bonnie Raitt, to name a few, he has 7 CD’s recorded on the label Soundings of the Planet.

Scott's performances are powerfully electrifying. Using a violin bow, an E-bow, percussion styling and other effects, he creates a mystical musical landscape that is so multi-textured, vast and breathtaking, it is unimaginable that this music could be created by one man and his guitar.

FreeSound is a blues, reggae band which originates from Oahu and has toured at festivals throughout the United States.

“FreeSound's live performance was beyond words- the music soared. There was an energy, a spirit, a soul that permeated the air and had the audience absorbed in the vibe. Many in the audience had been to the Russian River Blues Festival and were quick to comment that this band gave out more soul and heart than any of the artists that performed that day at the festival." Dulce Records music review 6/18/06

FreeSound is composed of Adam Crowne on electric guitar, Keith Batlin on the big blues driven vocals, Brian Kusko and Tanasa on percussion, and Ryan Brandvoid on Bass.

New Band. Jonathan Heroux is the co-founder of Ong King, and writer of much of the music of Quadraphonix. His latest project involves Shree Sagopan on electric sitar, Chris on the Bass and classical violinist Hannah.

Solo Violin Performance: For the past 8 years Hanna Youngling has played with orchestras in the United States and Germany. Her classical training is fusing with her love of wild gypsy chords, hip-hop and reggae. Currently she performs on the streets of Waikiki and with HPU’s Chamber Orchestra.

HUTC joins forces with Ginnko Marischino to bring a Ritual Theatre Spectacle. The hip-hop and poetry merge with the Butoh dance to enact a mythic story of rediscovering the mother earth within the heart of humanity. Derrin Miller, Malia Oliver, both Iona Dancers, are joined by Shaman Robin Sol. Robin has studied as a Shamans' apprentice in Asia and teaches workshops across the US.

Theatre: In celebration of V-Day, an international day dedicated to ending violence towards women, an excerpt from Vagina Monologues will be performed by local students. The piece is written by Eve Ensler, Coordinated by Jeni Heath, and Directed by See/Cristian Ellauri.

Capoeira Cordao de Ouro performs with their Master teacher, Contra Mestre Pintado, who just returned from Brazil.

Audience Participatory Percussion Medley: Michael Wall, In addition to hosting scores of community music-making events, Michael Wall has taught and performed on djembe, dundun, conga, frame drum and percussion for many years. Michael is the co-founder of the Hawaii Fire Tribe Gatherings and Sacred Arts Circles - inspired by the power of drum, dance and song as portals to heart-filled magick and sheer ecstasy! Michael is also an Artist Teaching Partner for the Hawaii Department of Education.

JUggler: The Amazing TJ, has spent the last month crafting his act on the streets of Waikiki. He is ready to take the art of juggling and chin balancing to a new level.

SLAM POET: Each month a new feature poet comes from the mainland to grace the stage. Who will it be this month? TBA
MC SEE seals the seems of serenades and dreams with immaculate rhymes and layers of joy to all who make Honolulu a culture of inspiration.
