Description/Comments
March's First Friday "One Night Stand" in the Chinatown Courtyard on Smith Street, in honor of Girl's Day will feature a book signing by Minako Ishii of Beyond
Borders Images
. The book (with two front covers) describes two of Hawaii's favorite holidays. It covers the origin, significance, and customs of Girls' Day (March 3) and Boys' Day (May 5), highlighting the similarities and differences between community, school, and family celebrations in Japan and in Hawaii. The binding produces two books in one.

While published for children to learn about the traditions of both days through photographs and stories, there is also a photo exhibition that will provide further story for adults. The author will be on hand to sign books and share photographs and stories that are not in the book.

Minako's students from Waikiki Elementary School will also exhibit their photographs and pictures in the Courtyard. View and enjoy 30 pictures taken by photographers aged between 6-11 years old!

"Luke Thompson and Friends", the multimedia artists from CR-8 Studios will be filling the remaining walls and open areas with their unique work.

Come and investigate the work of emerging artists and student photographers, purchase a personally signed book, have refreshments and listen to wonderful Hawaiian music, which will be provided by Fred Gayagas this month. Enter the Courtyard through the gate on Smith Street as marked by the Blue Dragon and his lanterns.
Book signing by Minako Ishii - Girl's Day/Boy's Day. Featuring art, entertainment and more. Hot new artist here!
