"Body Cutlery" - Made In Hawai'i
by "B-OBI"

Exhibit Open from February 2 -- 28, 2007

PACIFIC TRADITIONS GALLERY presents "B-Obi" with 35-years experience in fashioning beautiful jewelry crafted from Antique silverware.

Each timeless piece is an individual and the artist is influences by the piece itself as to what it will become.

The sterling silverware is transformed into rings, bracelets, earrings, pendants and money clips ranging in price from $20.00 to $2,000.00

An exquisite bracelet engraved with George Washington's Mount Vernon made in 1939 by the International Silver Company and carries the important Wm. Rogers Manufacturing Company backstamp; began its life as a teaspoon.

"Body Cutlery" art form has evolved from Slave Art, having a renaissance in the 1950's.

Slave and Free Artisans made significant contributions to the social, political, and economic landscape of antebellum South. Skilled craftsmen--from shoemakers and coopers to silversmiths and furniture-makers--played a major role in the spread of the plantation economy as well as its urban and industrial development. Moreover, many of the objects they produced have provided African-Americans with a lasting cultural legacy in the form of decorative arts, buildings, and architecture.

"B-Obi" will be at The Pacific Traditions Gallery crafting new jewelry pieces.
Monday -- Friday 11a.m. -- 2p.m.

"Body Cutlery" classes every Saturday in February For more information call Umi @284-8868
