MUSIC CONCERT 9pm - 2am ($10): The featured performer is Nigerian-American poet/singer, Iyeoka Ivie Okoawo. She has opened up for numerous artist such as Gil Scot Heron with the Jeff Robinson Trio and most recently Vivian Green performing at Afrocentrics. She has been a featured guest at the House of Blues in Boston, the Cambridge Center for Adult Education, and Avalon where she opened for the hip-hop/soul recording artist Musiq Soulchild. Iyeoka was showcased in Russell Simmons' Def Poetry Jam airing on HBO and was a highlight on the late night CBS hip hop show The SOURCE ALL ACCESS. Combining her vocal talents, passion for writing and theater background, she captivates audiences with pieces that touch on a wide range of issues-love, women, culture, struggle, relationships, among many others. Iyeoka's performance was described at the National Poetry Slam as "a conversation stopper" and a "refreshing return to the essence of good spoken word poetry."

In 2004 Iyeoka released her second album LP "Black and Blues" through Phanai Records. www.iyeoka.com

Iyeoka will perform with members of local groove band Quadraphonix.

Also performing are Eli and the Cuban Drum Ensemble, and
ÉÉDJ Joulz keeps the entire night flowing with original remixes and World Beats.

SLAM POETRY: Each month three poets perform their best original poetry.

ART GALLERY OPENING 5pm-9pm: The featured artist, Margo Schrire, presents her show entitled ‘Tokoloshe.’ Margo grew up in the racially segregated Apartheid system of South Africa. Here, she first learned of the existence of the super natural zombie, ‘Tokoloshe.’ Margo traveled the middle east and Europe until 9 years ago when she settled in Hawaii. She currently works at IHS, the Institute for Human Services, Oahu’s largest emergency homeless shelter. Margot’s artwork takes shape through her daily encounters with people struggling - and surviving – from the women with mental illness, to the children living in poverty in South Africa.

Graffiti Artist, Kristof (Eugene-Kristof her Menor) was born and raised on the east side of San Jose. He was inspired to move to Hawaii by his relationship with Jesus Christ. This spiritual connection continues to inspire and enlighten his work .
