| Description/Comments |
The "One Night Stand" will feature multi-talented artists this month all new to the Courtyard. For four hours each month, well-known and emerging artists are showcased in the delightful, historic, red brick promenade and in the festive courtyard. The public is invited to come and investigate excellent artwork, have refreshments and listen to wonderful Hawaiian music, which will be provided by Fred Gayagas (View Profile) this month.
Featured artists new to the Courtyard are:
Mark Boots Keahi 'a'amau pio'ole i ka poli o Pele Lupenui, who will be bringing a series of original oil paintings. They will include still lifes, landscapes, portraits of local people and some pieces with strong Hawaiian cultural themes. Several of the pieces are meant to be provocative and all have a slight edge to them that is humorous, disquieting and slanted, sometimes all at once. When he is not working in the visual arts, Boots can be seen playing music on stage at various venues throughout Hawai'i.
Ann McCoy's oil paintings reflect the impact that the Hawaiian culture and landscape has on her as a native New Yorker. She occasionally moves on to other subjects, but always gets pulled back by the beauty that surrounds her.
Lisa Madsen cites her love of Hawaii and the surrounding ocean as her inspiration for the new paintings she will be showing on First Friday. She is inspired especially by the fish that live on Hawaii's spectacular reefs.
And Christina Simpkins, a local actress and photographer will be bringing her photography that celebrates the sensuality and strength of women by the use of body landscapes. She also has had three short films chosen for the recent Louis Vuitton Hawaii International Film Festival, some of which will be shown upstairs overlooking the Courtyard.
Renee Darrow and her work will also be included. As will chair massage by Dean Powell. Luscious Lanikai Jellies will be available again as well.
Enter the Courtyard through the open gate on Smith Street as marked by the Blue Dragon banner and located at #10 on the Gallery Walk Guide (Other Venues)
