| Description/Comments |
New and returning Windward artists will contribute to the August edition of the One Night Stand during the Gallery Walk in Chinatown. Attendance continues to rise as the community discovers the hidden Courtyard. Each event combines exciting artistic works, Hawaiian and contemporary music and refreshments in a festive atmosphere.
First Friday will feature several artists new to the Courtyard:
Kamaaina painter, Warren Stenberg (view profile) offers a mix of recent plein aire local landscapes, Island reef scenes, and several abstracts in oil, acrylic and watercolor.Ê Dexter Doi will be showing his work, among which are some very tasteful nudes. His wife, Carol D'angelo who is the curator of the Costume Collection (Textiles and Clothing Program) at University of Hawaii at Manoa will surprise the Gallery Walk viewers with her exceptional work.
Dhyana Zagri's paintings are based on the beautiful art of the Tibetan Buddhist Tangka. Mystical Deities, wonderous Goddesses and wrathful Guardians are but a few of the fascinating images created by Dhyana in acrylics on canvas and in print.
Artists returning to the Courtyard include Ivan Krillzarin (view profile) whose Astral Visions & Cosmic Dreams combine futuristic elemental form and color concepts based on Ancient Meditation Mandalas and 20th Century modern abstract art traditions. Master ceramist Jeanne Nichols will show her colorful new series of carved and embossed ceramic vessels featuring Turtles, Dolphins and Tapa designs. Using multi-media techniques, Arthur Nelander (view profile) will return with two and three-dimensional work featuring heavy impasto paintings and organic-shaped "Dining Sculpture" ceramics. Dean Powell will offer his chair massage throughout the evening for those who want to relax as they enjoy the music.
Al Tringali (view profile), guitar and Art Akina, bass, will entertain from their usual First Friday spot performing their ever-popular Hawaiian favorites right inside the Dragon Gate.
Enter the Courtyard through the gate on Smith Street as marked by the Blue Dragon and located at #10 on the Gallery Walk Guide (Other Venues).
