Description/Comments
New and returning artists will contribute to the July edition of the “One Night Stand” during the Gallery Walk in Chinatown. Attendance continues to rise as the community discovers the hidden Courtyard. Each event combines exciting artistic works, Hawaiian and contemporary music and refreshments in a festive atmosphere.

First Friday will feature several artists new to the Courtyard:

Maurice Hutchinson (view profile) will present his Digital Fine Art derived from pencil drawings and sketches. Each work is a montage of colorful and textured puzzle-piece shapes arranged to let the eye explore and discover a variety of images to include animals, fish, birds, dragons and even faces--what is seen is limited only by the viewer's imagination. A unique art style reflecting the multi-cultural heritage and experiences of the artist.

Kathy Macdonald's new series of acrylic paintings are based on the life cycle of magnolia blossoms in her windward Oahu garden. An original haiku describing the painting's inspiration accompanies each painting.Ê

Kimo Fujii applies his imagination to manipulate environments and shapes and to see the world in a different perspective, with a mixture of both the surreal and the abstract.

Maria Steele's work is about the infinite. She uses shapes and abstract forms to express the movement of energy back into the finite. The cosmic dance of life.

Shana Weber, who works in several art forms including life figures, imaginary landscapes, and charcoal figures. Her signature works involve a simple icon or form embedded in a tapestry of bright color abstracts.

Artists returning to the Courtyard include Jeanne Nichols whose Hawaiiana ceramics are always welcome, Mark Brown will be painting on site and it is always fascinating to see his plein creations evolve during the evening and Arthur Nelander with his colorful and oddly shaped ceramic "Dining Sculptures" make having a meal a life altering event, for the brave of heart, mind and spirit only...

Dean Powell will offer his chair massage for those who may be brave of heart but tired of walking.

Al Tringali, guitar and Art Akina, bass, will be in their usual First Friday spot performing their ever-popular Hawaiian favorites under the tent.

Enter the Courtyard through the gate on Smith Street as marked by the Blue Dragon and located at #10 on the Gallery Walk Guide (Other Venues).
Featuring art, entertainment and more.
